Graduate School of Humanities & Information
The Graduate School of Humanities and Information was established in 1998 and is located on Sejong campus. The Graduate School and undergraduate College of Humanities, College of Science and Technology, and College of Economics and Commerce cooperate closely with one another. The Graduate School has such facilities as Sejong Institute of Foreign Language Studies, the Language Lab, and the Academic Information Center. The Academic Information Center can seat more than 1,600 students and consists of a reading room, an electronic reference room, a periodical room, a copy room, an acquisition and processing room, and a reference room for the arts and sciences as well as the social and natural sciences. It also has a computer room which has useful materials and information for graduate students.

The Graduate School offers a Master's degree program and is composed of the Department of Korean Language and Literature (Korean Language and Literature, Korean Literary Aesthetics Information), the Department of Literature and Art (Creative Writing, Reading Guidance), the Department of Chinese Translation (Chinese Translation), the Department of English Translation and Interpretation (English Translation), the Department of Heritology Information (Heritology Information), and the Department of Social Welfare (Studies of Social Welfare, Welfare for the Elderly). The school aims to train professionals and provide high-quality reeducation programs for professional working people.

  ADMISSION
1. Students who received a Bachelor's degree from a four-year college.
2. Students whose education background is recognized as being on a par with item #1 by the Minister of Education and Human Resources.
3. Students who graduated from an undergraduate institution recognized in the
Education Act.
4. Students who completed more than 16 years of education abroad and have high school and college diplomas from abroad.
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
1. Students are required to register for five semesters of course work but they cannot exceed ten semesters to complete their course work.
2. Each semester will consist of more than 15 weeks of course work.
3. The minimum number of total credits required is 26, which must include 16 credits for courses related to majors and ten credits for general electives.
4. Students can register for thesis research guide (two credits) in the fourth or fifth semester. Credits earned from thesis research guide will not be counted toward the minimum requirement of 26 credits.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE, WITHDRAWAL, AND DISMISSAL

1. Leave of Absence

(1) If a student cannot fulfill more than one-third of the required course work hours due to illness or circumstances beyond his or her control, the student can file for a leave of absence. The student must obtain the approval of the president of Korea University.

(2) The term for leave of absence is on a semester basis, and students cannot take more than one semester off from school. Students cannot file for a leave of absence more than three times. Exceptions will be made for students who are on military duty.

2. The following students will be dismissed from school:

(1) Students who fail to register within the designated registration period.
(2) Students who fail to register for re-enrollment after the period for leave of absence expires.
(3) Students who fail to register for re-enrollment within 1 year after their being discharged from the army
(4) Students who failed to complete their required course work within ten semesters.
(5) Students who wish to withdraw from school.

EXTENSION LECTURES, FOREIGN STUDENTS, AND SCHOLARSHIPS

1. Extension Lectures

(1) Depending on need, the school will open extension lectures from time to time and issue a separate certificate to students who attend all the lectures.

(2) The dean of the Graduate School will decide on the name, subject, time, venue, and the total number of students for all extension lectures.

2. Scholarships and research funds will be offered to students who have an outstanding grade point average or who have contributed to the educational goals of the Graduate School.

3. Foreign students who meet the admission qualifications will be admitted under the Special Admission process. The number of foreign students admitted will not exceed two percent of the total number of students admitted. The two percent will not be counted toward the total number of students enrolled.

THESIS AND EXAMINATION

1.A student who earned a total of 26 credits with a grade point average of B or above and who passed the comprehensive examination for a Master's degree, can submit his/her Master's thesis for evaluation.

2. Students can submit their request for Master's thesis evaluation either in April or in September.

3. The evaluation and oral examination must be completed within two months of the thesis submission date.

4. The thesis evaluation committee must be composed of three persons, including the advisor. The student's thesis advisor will head the committee and oversee the committee meeting.

5. The results of the evaluation of the thesis, including the oral examination, will be marked with A, B, C, or F, and the student must receive a "C" grade or above. More than two-thirds of the committee members must approve in order for the thesis to pass.

6. Certificate of translation, reading guidance: The Graduate School will offer the translator licences, reading guidance licence, to students who receive more than 16 credits with the average grade of 'B' or above related to their major field and pass the required examinations given by the school.
Certificate of counseling-family, adolescents, elderly: The Graduate School will offer to students who receive more than 10 credits with the average grade of 'B' or above and pass the required examinations given by the school.
Certificate of care management: The Graduate School will offer to students, who receive more than 20 credits with the average grade of 'B' or above and have done social work practicum more than 1 year and pass the required examinations given by the school.

7. Comprehensive examination
(1) Students, who have taken at least three semesters of course work and have earned more than 18 credits with the average grade of ¡®B' average or above, can register for the comprehensive examination.
(2) The Graduate School will exempt the students, who have the above applicant qualification with the average grade of 'B' or above, from the comprehensive examination. In case the students submit the above exempt-application.
(3) The comprehensive examination will consist of two subjects related to students' major field of study. The examination committee will decide on the subject matter and content of the examination.
(4) Students will be tested on each subject for 70 minutes. Students must score a 60 or higher to pass the examination.

THE COUNCIL OF THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND INFORMATION

1.The Council will be composed of more than 7 members among the faculty of the Graduate School, nominated by the president of Korea University. The dean of the Graduate School will head the council.

2. The term for the council is two years.

3. The council will deliberate on the following matters.

(1) Matters related to admission, completion of course work, and awarding of degrees.
(2) Matters related to introducing and closing departments and majors and the total number of students enrolled.
(3) Matters related to introducing and changing curriculum.
(4) Matters related to opening and operating extension lectures.
(5) Matters related to enacting and changing Graduate School regulations.
