Introduction to Department

In our times of 10,000 dollars of national income, social physical education aims to develop new professionals in the area who can lead an organization which can integrate various values of physical education and desirable activities in terms of social welfare, preventive medicine and popularization of physical education.

In specific, it aims to: ① Develop leaders of social physical education equipped with wide internal values and great personality; ② Cultivate leaders who have balanced professional knowledge, excellent practical skills, wide applicability and adaptation skills; ③ Produce leaders of firm senses of purpose and dedication to mission; and, ④ Provide leaders who can play leading roles in various areas of social physical education and contribute to national health and sound social culture.

For improvement of professional leadership skills and whole-person education, overall theories of social physical education (Overview of Social Physical Education, Leadership Theory, Program Organization and Operation, Leisure Education Theory, etc.) are provided. Scientific thinking and application (for physical exercise therapy) can be achieved through human anatomy, physiology, bio-mechanics, sports psychology, sports medicine, training theory and dietetics. Depending on individual choice, students can engage in planning, management and administration as leaders on the worksite..

It is planned to establish University of Social Physical Education to cultivate new advanced leaders in addition to social physical education providers of wider scopes by organizing diverse and advanced educational programs such as exercise therapy, leisure business and rapidly developing sports marketing in line with the 21st century globalization and informatization.

Tips for Undergraduate Students

  1. 01What aptitudes are appropriate to enter the department?
    Students are required to be physically strong, interested in major areas and potentially able in the practice, whole in personality and able to think scientifically. Also, students are required to serve the nation for recovery of humaneness, lifetime education, health promotion, local community development, juvenile guidance and leisure activities through social physical education.
  2. 02What are the characteristics of this department?
    Students will study the backgrounds and directions for guidance and management of social physical education through bodies used over a lifespan of a person. They will be introduced to the academic backgrounds and direction of sports and exercises while learning about scientific approaches. Also, they will acquire academic basics and techniques necessary to establish and manage an organization to lead all the projects and activities using leisure and sports successfully.
  3. 03What will we study in this department?
    • Various sports activities: Ball games (basketball, volleyball, soccer, etc.) and racket-based games (tennis, squash, etc.), golf, ski, scuba diving, aerobics, jazz dance and other various active extracurricular activities available in small groups.
    • Small Group on Exercise Science: Students learn about diagnosis and prescription pertaining to health and physical strength as well as the methods of analysis of human body movement in a scientific exercise laboratory equipped with advanced experiment and measurement devices.
    • Small Group on Leisure and Sports Information Analysis: The group seeks to collect diverse types of data on leisure and sports. The members explore how to research and apply the results to carry out a relevant project.
  4. 04Are their extracurricular activities?
    Extracurricular activities take place twice or three times a week, covering practice such as soccer, tennis, basketball, golf, bowling and swimming as well as theory such as exercise therapy, computer and sports marketing.
  5. 05What are the career paths after graduation?
    Graduates from this department may enter the areas of social physical education as administrator, trainer, sports and exercise prescription researcher and leader, trainer at hotels or large complex gymnasiums, exercise therapist at professional medical institution, trainer for professional players as well as managers, IT analysts or recreationist in the leisure or sports industry areas.
