Public Sociology covers not only the foundational major of Sociology, but also extends into new areas such as social policy, sociological economics, and sociological statistics. It strives for providing systematic education with the goal of looking critically, but objectively, at government policy. It aims to cultivate active ways of thinking to understand and solve social problems by focusing on various areas like culture, education, environment, crime, and welfare.
Public Sociology fosters students with holistic viewpoints that are grounded in basic knowledge of sociology and both classical and contemporary sociological theories, and covers subjects related to social welfare such as social policy theories, welfare state theories, and senior welfare theories. It also aims to cultivate students who are capable of critically analyzing materials through the use of social research methods and big data science.
