ITRC Project Group

What is ITRC Project Group?

This is to support the university’s IT research center to develop advanced IT workforce capable to develop IT-based core convergence technology and conduct projects, which is necessary for the country to become knowledge and innovation-led industrial power.

Unbalanced demand and supply of advanced workforce and lack of R&D capacity
  • With a forecast that 5,000 more IT personnel with master’s or doctoral degrees will be necessary by 2010, the university works hard to make the supplying side sufficient.
  • More important is to prevent weakening R&D capacity rather than quantitative demand and supply affairs.
Unbalanced demand and supply of advanced workforce and lack of R&D capacity
  • Domestic universities have many more excellent workers with doctoral degrees than corporations or public research institutions but their participation in research and development is only 10%.

As of 2005, 69.4% (40,229) of doctoral degree holders of Korea work for universities.

Development of Global Core Human Resources
  • The abilities to create, use and innovate knowledge are the factor to determine wealth and “human beings” are the core of national competitiveness.
  • Companies need human resources equipped with creativeness, project capacity and global competitiveness.

As knowledge-based society is expected, many countries such as USA, European countries and China have established the plan to develop appropriate human resources
(The Second Basic National Human Resources Development Plan, Ministry of Education, December 2005)

Minimization of Brain Leak to Overseas Sources
  • IITA including ITRC is aimed at increasing global competitiveness of domestic universities by providing labor cost and research equipment and inviting excellent overseas students and employing overseas professors.
