Professor Hong Changsoo of Creative Writing and Media Studies

and Graduate Student Cha Hayul Chosen as Finalists for their Plays in ‘2020 Arko Selection New Work of the Year’

Creative Writing and Media Studies Professor Hong Changsoo’s “Nurannuran” and graduate student in the school of Creative Writing and Media Studies, Cha Hayul’s, “Way to Cannes” were chosen as finalists for their plays in the ‘2020 Arko Selection New Work of the Year’ held by the Culture and Arts Committee.

Arko Selection New Work of the Year, the top support project in the country in the field of creative writing, is held in the form of a competition from the planning stage in order to discover remarkable works. Also, this project provides each selected troupe with one hundred million won and support for the production costs in the amount of eighty million won. The project was conducted in three phases: a written exam, PT and interview, and lastly, a demonstration. In total, five applications displaying quality and creativity among 87 highly evaluated candidates, were shortlisted.

Professor Hong expressed his thoughts on making the shortlist for the support project, saying, “I’m twice as happy since I was shortlisted for the top contest in the country with writer Cha Hayul. I will strike with an intense creative spirit.” Following that up, Cha Hayul said, “’Way to Cannes’ is a story with its background set in the 90s. This selection has provided an opportunity to discuss our history in depth with contemporary audiences, and I feel it is significant in that regard.”
