Agreement Ceremony Held for COVID-19 Free Zone Platform Technology Transfer

On January 20, an agreement ceremony for the transfer of COVID-19 Free Zone platform technology was held at the Administration Building of Korea University Sejong Campus. In the wake of the signing ceremony hosted by Jung Yongwoo, head of Korea University’s Sejong Research & Business Foundation, the Korea University corporate research institute of the King Star Lighting Company will be established at the Health Information Technology Center. Many guests attended the ceremony, including Vice President Kim Young of Korea University, Dean Kang Sangwook of the Health Information Technology Center, and CEO Lee Daeyoung of the King Star Lighting Company.

The relevant technology uses light sterilization to sustain prevention of COVID-19 infection in an eco-friendly manner. Not just the prevention of COVID-19 infection, it also blocks the spread of airborne infectious diseases to safely prevent further COVID-19 infections. The Korea University corporate research institute to be established through this agreement is set to produce, sell, and provide products with ‘an integrated disinfection technology system of light sterilization to ensure a COVID-19 Free Zone.’ Moreover, participation in government projects is expected subject to purchase conditions by public institutions, which are consumers of the technology.

Commenting on the agreement, Vice President Kim said, “In a global crisis such as this, there is a need for a wide range of quarantine measures,” adding, “I hope more efficient and economical technology will develop through this technology transfer.” After that, Dean Kang said, “Although I don’t have long to go before retiring, I hope to leave my mark on Korea University Sejong Campus with this technology.”

Meanwhile, the King Star Lighting Company’s corporate research institute affiliated with Korea University will sell upgraded infectious disease broadband sterilization lighting products through continuous technical support from the Health Information Technology Center and donate a certain amount of the proceeds to Korea University’s development fund.
