IT Science Technology Forum ‘Innovate Korea 2021’ Held at Korea University Sejong Campus

Korea’s representative IT Science Technology Forum ‘Innovative Korea 2012’ was held at Korea University Sejong Campus on August 26.

Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), Yong Hong Taek, chairman of the Science and Technology Research Association, Kim Bokcheol, president of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Lee Kwang Hyung, president of Korea University, Jeong Jintaek, CEO of Herald Economy, Jeon Changhyup, directors of government-funded institutes, and many other key figures in the science industry were present at the event.

The Innovate Korea 2021 Forum, in its 5th year this year, is a large-scale IT Science Technology event with many prominent figures participating annually, as well as over four hundred people joining the event. As a result of the university’s enthusiastic plan to host the event, this year’s was held at the Sejong Campus.

As the Sejong Campus is in Sejong City, it is currently maintaining level three social distancing, so the university prepared the strongest quarantine guidelines in order to keep the event safe.

It means a lot that the Innovative Korea 2021 Forum was held in Sejong City, known as the new capital, and specifically at Korea University Sejong Campus, a place that is currently achieving joint local innovation with Sejong City.

The main theme of this year’s forum was ‘Great Transformation is the Future.’ Various science technology and ICT professionals expressed their visions of the great socioeconomic transformation underway, starting with president of KAIST, Lee Kwang Hyung’s keynote speech, and progressing towards the goal of analyzing Korea’s current and future science and ICT technology and searching for its development strategy.

CEO of Herald Economy, Jeon Changhyup, said, “Korea is welcoming the phase of great transformation much faster than we expected due to COVID 19. The basis of the great transformation period is IT science. I hope that today’s event can contribute to the formation of a Korea that is strong in science and technology.”

President of Korea University, Jeong Jintaek, said, “From a few years ago, we have been living in an unsure and great transformational period with the start of a digital transition and COVID-19’s impact on the development of a New Normal. The motive of Korea’s innovative development depends on stakeholders’ ability to become ‘one.’ We have to go through this period with close cooperation between industry, academia, research, and government.”

President of KAIST, Lee Kwang Hyung, who was in charge of the keynote speech, said, “We are currently experiencing a period of great innovation in ICT. I think the driving force in our daily lives nowadays is contagious disease, a decline in humanity, and AI.”

He also added, “This will consequently bring about a new global paradigm. In a state of technology hegemony, the application of these three technologies will become very important.”
