Korea University Sejong Campus Receives "All Pass" in Korean University Accreditation Institute's 2023 Institutional Evaluation

Korea University Sejong Campus has been granted state-level accreditation until 2028, having excelled in all areas of the "2023 Second Half University Institutional Evaluation" carried out by the Korean University Accreditation Institute.

Initiated in 2011 as a subsidiary project of the Korean Council for University Education, the ongoing evaluation aims to systematically refine and nurture higher education. Its objective is to ascertain whether universities are functioning effectively as educational institutions, with the results being made available to the public in a bid to consolidate their societal reputations.

The accreditation affirms the university's adherence to mandatory standards and ongoing improvement in educational quality through constructive means.

The evaluation protocol includes self-reports and on-site assessments, culminating in a contemplative review. In this third cycle of accreditation, the campus qualified in all thirty criteria across five areas: ideology and management, curriculum and scholarship, faculty and staff, student welfare and facilities, as well as general accomplishments and civic stewardship.

In sum, the campus has been acknowledged as a specialized campus with a focus on convergence and innovation based on the three innovation agendas of 'Educational Innovation,' 'Research Innovation,' and 'Regional Innovation.' Recognition extends to achievements across education, research, research and business, management, and regional collaboration, aligned with the realization of educational objectives and the desired characteristics of human resources, as well as the institution's long-term development plans.

Vice President Kim Young stated, "The educational innovation of Korea University, established on the founding philosophy of contributing to national development, has been proven through this third-cycle accreditation evaluation." He added, "As a 'metropolitan-centric university,' we will continue to contribute to the growth of the nation in conjunction with the development of Sejong City."

The accreditation period runs from January 2024 to December 2028 and the campus will maintain its eligibility to state subsidies until December 2028. In the second-half evaluation of 2023, a total of 56 universities applied, which resulted in 49 universities receiving 'accreditation,' 5 universities receiving 'conditional accreditation,' 1 university receiving 'accreditation deferred,' and 1 university receiving 'non-accreditation.’
