Korea University Sejong Campus Holds 23rd Memorial Ceremony for the Late Lee Soohyun
On May 14, the 23rd memorial ceremony for the late Lee Soohyun was held at the memorial stone in front of the Science and Technology Building II. Hosted by the student council of the Global Business College, this memorial ceremony was conducted to honor the noble sacrifice and brave actions of Lee, who lost his life rescuing a passenger who had fallen onto the tracks at Shin-Okubo Station in Tokyo on January 26, 2001.
The event was attended by Shin Yoonchan, the mother of Lee; Kim Young, Vice President of Sejong Campus; Kim Rang Hyeyun, Dean of the Global Business College; Lee Dongheon, Secretary General; Park Jun, President of the Global Business College Student Union; and about 70 students from the Global Business College along with student union presidents from each college.
The memorial ceremony included a laying of flowers by the students, followed by the Lee Soohyun Scholarship Award Ceremony. This scholarship was established with a donation of 100 million won by the parents of Lee in 2001. It is awarded annually to students of the Department of Trade (Global Business today) where Lee studied or to members of the rock band club ‘MUDAN BAND’ to which he belonged.
The scholarship was awarded to student Lee Hyunji from the Global Business College and Noh Yoochan from MUDAN BAND.

Furthermore, Shin Yoonchan stated, "I hope that many students who are pursuing their dreams will inherit Soohyun's spirit and continue to walk their precious paths."
Relatedly, Lee received the Order of Civil Merit on January 31, 2001, and an honorary diploma from his alma mater, Korea University Sejong Campus, on February 24 of the same year. Memorial stones honoring him are placed at Busan Children's Grand Park, his alma mater Nakmin Elementary School, Dongnae Middle School, Naeseong High School, and Korea University Sejong Campus.
