Korea University Sejong Campus Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics 3rd Living Lab Holds Final Performance Presentation in the Field of Smart Health and Biohealth

On August 13, Korea University Sejong Campus Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics 3rd Living Lab held its final performance presentation at the Research and Business Cooperation Building.

The presentation was attended by Living Lab advisory professors Baek Seungpil, Lee Kyudo, Lee Hyungjin, Research Professor Min Giha, and participating undergraduate students and graduate student mentors. Several other undergraduate and graduate students interested in environmental issues in Sejong City were also present.

This presentation served as an opportunity to showcase the results of the Living Lab activities, where innovative ideas in the fields of smart health and biohealth were tested and industrialization strategies were explored, based on the specialized knowledge of the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics. The presentation was divided into six main topics.

The first team researched online and offline enlightenment methods for improving, managing, and preventing issues in the smart health environment within the department. They presented posters on environmental improvements within the department and on student depression and sleep issues. The second team proposed ways to contribute to the local green industry by installing and operating a smart farm (vertical garden) in the central corridor on the 3rd floor. The third team explored improvements to the department's major and extracurricular activities tailored to regional innovation in Sejong City and created promotional materials based on the latest Nobel Prize-related information, which were displayed during the event.

The fourth team researched methods for estimating and alleviating stress using brainwaves and heart rate. They conducted experiments with several undergraduate students and presented the results in a poster. The fifth team researched ways to improve local health and the environment using biological and natural materials, particularly focusing on the development of a natural energy drink with Rhodiola extract as the main ingredient. Lastly, the sixth team researched ways to improve local health and the environment using biomimetic materials and presented the development of a next-generation carrier to address algae issues using discarded peaches from Sejong City.

This event was sponsored as part of the Local University Activation Project, which is one of the University Innovation Support Projects, and was jointly hosted and organized by the Korea University Sejong Campus Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics and the Biological Clock-based Anti-Aging Convergence Regional-Leading Research Center (RLRC).
