<2019 ‘Festivals and Cultural Content’ Summer Symposium Held by GlobalCultural Content Society>

On June 8, ‘Festivals and Cultural Content,’ the 2019 Summer Symposium of the Global Cultural Content Society was held in Nong Shim Hall of Korea University Sejong Campus. This event was hosted by the Global Cultural Content Society and the Korea Studies’ Research Institute of Korea University Sejong Campus, and was supported by the Department of Culture Contents and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies BK21+ Ethnic Korea Business Training Program of Professional Manpower in City Regeneration. This symposium suggested various ways for how festivals could be seen as valuable forms of cultural content, and was arranged with the aim of having discussions about what meanings festivals have in the modern age.

 

Professor Kim Jeongu from Culture Contents who read the congratulatory address, said, “It’s an honor to host the Global Cultural Content Society for the first time in Korea University Sejong Campus.” He added that, “I hope that academic discussions about festivals and the various ideas that can be applied to them are derived directly from this symposium. I ask for your continuous interest in the Global Cultural Content Society, and I hope everyone who participates in the event attains academic achievements in the field of Cultural Content.”

 

 

Afterwards, a keynote lecture was given by the manager of the Korea Studies Research Institute, An Namil, and a poster judging session was held. In addition, celebrated scholars gave presentations about various topics such as ‘Festivals and Local Culture’ and ‘Festivals and Societal Governance,’ and the panel engaged in discussions regarding those topics. Professor Kim Sangheon from Sangmyung University, who was the emcee of the closing ceremony, emphasized the importance of securing research ethics to all participants in the symposium, after which he wrapped up the contest by announcing the winner of the ‘best paper’ award.
