On September 23, a 2019 signboard hanging ceremony was held at the Korea University Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology (RIPST) in the College of Pharmacy of Korea University Sejong Campus to commemorate the Ministry of Education designating it as the ‘Main University Research Institute.’ Many guests and students attended, including President Kim Yeong, Jeon Yeongho, dean of the College of Pharmacy, Lee Giho, vice dean of the College of Pharmacy, Byeon Yeongju, manager of the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology, Gwon Yeongseok, economic policy manager of Sejong City, Baek Seungpil, manager of the Sejong Research and Business Team, Yun Seokmoo, director of the Sejong Technopark, and Vice President Kim Maengseop of Ahn-Gook Pharmaceuticals.

The Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology of Korea University Sejong Campus was selected by the Ministry of Education from among science and engineering universities for full business support as the 2019 Main University Research Institute. As part of this selection, the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology is expected to receive research funds from the government in the amount of 6.7 billion won from 2019 to 2028. In addition, they plan to develop new medicines to cure the root problems of asthma and atopic dermatitis, and commercialize technology for discovering new remedies. Moreover, they plan to conduct cooperative research to commercialize the achievements of their fundamental research, collaborating with Allercuris, a venture company, and Ahn-Gook Pharmaceuticals.

Vice President Kim, who attended the signboard hanging ceremony, said, “Thank you for inviting me to the ceremony of the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology of Korea University. I’m honored to be here at this meaningful event.” He added, “The tremendous development and remarkable growth of the RIPST are the results of the passion and effort of your researchers over the last ten years. I am confident that Korea University Sejong Campus will put this support to excellent use to achieve favorable research results in the future.”

Following the vice president’s speech, congratulatory speeches were also given by Yun Seokmoo, director of the Sejong Technopark, Vice President Kim Maengseop of Ahn-Gook Pharmaceuticals, and Jeon Yeongho, dean of the College of Pharmacy. The event wrapped up with the unveiling of the signboard and a hanging ceremony, and a commemorative photograph was taken.

RIPST was built in collaboration with the Korea University College of Pharmacy in 2011 and has demonstrated research competitiveness over the last three years based on an average annual amount of around 4 billion won in research funding provided by the government and various companies.
